Tuesday night was the channel league battle of the season for the Dos Pueblos girls varsity soccer team.
The Chargers tied, 1-1 with the undefeated Buena Bulldogs who have won their past 17 games consecutively.
However, the game was full of rough play.
DP started off the game and didn’t budge against the Bulldog defense as sophomore Ady Willett scored the Chargers first and only goal.
Willett’s strong, offensive contribution set the Charger momentum as senior co-capitan Rachel Smith and junior Shelby Hoffman continued to push the offense and play aggressive defense.
Smith received a yellow card and Hoffman received a red and was ejected from the game.
Hoffman’s red card gave Buena the chance to gain momentum as DP played short one player.
Buena used the setback to score the final goal of the game in the last five minutes, tying the final score at 1-1.
Although the Chargers couldn’t beat out the Bulldogs, they ended the 17-consecutive win streak.
The tie was bittersweet but the Chargers don’t regret a minute of the game.
“I’m so proud of the team,” said Smith. “We played with our hearts and left it on the field.”
