Last year, the Dos Pueblos Chargers boys basketball team graduated their five starting seniors, meaning that this year, the Chargers have to start fresh.
However, despite the big basketball shoes they have to fill, they’re ready for it.
With over eight seniors coming up through the ranks, Dos Pueblos is ready to lace up and head out to prove that they will be able to carry the 2012 team.
Last year, the Chargers finished their season with a league record of 4-8 but this year they have their sights set on a deep run into CIF.
And that CIF goal isn’t out of reach. The fresh senior team is coming into preseason play with no injured players and the thirst for victory.
But for the Chargers, it isn’t just about the victory.
It’s about proving they have what it takes to play with the best despite being the underdog.
The Chargers lost seniors Mansai Conner, Daniel Vickers, Isaac Gomez, Alec Rishwain and Connor Magner. However, upcoming seniors Chris Williams, Cruz Mertens, Gerry Perez, Devon Ray and Jackson Wopat are ready to lead the varsity team and prove this year, the Chargers aren’t at a loss.
Dos Pueblos will be able to put this new team to the test as they face off on the court against Valencia in the Simi Valley Tournament today.
“We are extremely excited to hit the court for our first game,” said senior Devon Ray. “It is our first test of the season and we are working hard to get ready for it.”
The Chargers have a lot to prove this season and big shoes to fill. However, they are ready to prove that the underdog can come out on top.
