Last night, the 2012 Dos Pueblos football season came to an end.
With a final score of 34-20, Culver City wrapped up their victory at the Scott O’Leary Stadium, kicking DP out of the first round of CIF. Despite the loss, the Chargers finished their season with a overall record of 7-3, league record of 3-1, and tied for the Channel League title.
However, the final game wasn’t a blowout and Dos Pueblos came out strong.
Senior running back, Anthony Spiritosanto, scored the first touchdown of the game with a 15-yard run.
Culver City was quick to respond with a 72-yard screen pass. The Culver City Centaurs couldn’t take the lead, however, as they missed the extra point and kept the Chargers ahead, 7-6.
The Centaurs made up for the lost point by taking the next two touchdowns before the end of the first half.
As the Chargers headed into the locker room, the Centaurs had the lead, 20-10.
Despite Nicolai Bornand’s assisted touchdown and 48-yard field goal, the second half was Culver City’s game.
After intercepting a pass, the Centaur’s scored a 66-yard touchdown putting the score at 27-10 and finished the last quarter and took the victory with a 79-yard touchdown.
The 2012 Charger season is over and last night was the last high school football game for the Charger seniors.
But the tears shed at the Scott O’Leary Stadium were not just for the loss.
“This has been the greatest time of my life,” said senior Jared Starr. “I’ll always remember it.”
