Sports update: cross country teams finish successful league season

The Dos Pueblos boys cross country team started the season as they intended to finish it, in first place.

Thursday, DP headed down to their final league meet of the season in Ventura and did just that.

The boys took the top three spots to score 19 points to claim the Channel League crown for the first time since 2005. Fastest runner in the nation, Bryan Fernandez, finished in first with a time 14 minutes and 37 seconds. Fernandez put his name down in the course history, running the second fastest time for the Camino Real course.

Despite the boys sweeping the league title, the girls came in second in the league behind Ventura.

Although the girls couldn’t take the gold, it wasn’t due to a lack of speed.

Overall top finishers for the girls included junior Addi Zerrenner, 17:36, and sophomore Elaine McClure who came in behind Zerrenner with a time of 17:59.

The impressive season has landed the boys and girls teams a spot in CIF. The teams will head down to Covina next Saturday for the first round of CIF races.
