Alex Cross

For those who have read stories by James Patterson, Alex Cross is a familiar name. Cross is the protagonist in a series of books written by Patterson and is being portrayed by Tyler Perry in Rob Cohen’s 2012 movie, “Alex Cross”. This film is about Cross (Tyler Perry) investigating a set of murders produced by the film’s villain, Michael “The Butcher” Sullivan (played by Lost’s Matthew Fox). While Cross tries to track down the murderer, Sullivan attempts to push him to his breaking point by threatening his family causing Cross to rethink his strategy. Also in this PG-13 film is Rachel Nichols, Jean Reno and various other actors. This high energy, action packed film is scheduled to be released on October 19, 2012.

Buzz: Cross’ character had its debut in the 2001 film, “Along Came a Spider” where he was portrayed by Morgan Freeman, now in 2012, will funny-man Tyler Perry be able to pull off such a tough, emotional role?

Bachelorette

Three crazy best friends, Regan (played by Kirsten Dunst), Katie (Isla Fisher), and Gena (Lizzy Caplan) have been close friends since high school. They used to hang out together and tease the same people. Only a couple years after high school, the three women get invited to their high school classmate, Becky’s (Rebel Wilson) wedding, also known to the girls as Pig Face. Regan wants to put the past behind them and throw a fabulous bachelorette bash for Becky, however as the liquor starts to flow, the night that was supposed to be the best night of a bride’s life, slowly turns into a crazy night in hell. This film is rated R and features  James Marsden, Kyle Bornheimer and Adam Scott and is set to be in theaters on September 7, 2012.

Buzz: Am I the only one thinking “Bridesmaids” part 2 or the female version of “The Hangover”?

Chasing Mavericks

“Chasing Mavericks” tells the story of Jay Moriarty, a surfing legend by the age of  16, who tragically died in an Indian Ocean diving accident at 22. Moriarty is played by Jonny Weston who befriends Frosty Hesson (Gerard Butler), a local famous surfer, and the two go on various surfing adventures while learning new things from each other. Throughout the movie, Hesson teaches Moriarty how to prepare to surf one of the most dangerous surf spots in the world,  ”Mavericks. This film is directed by Curtis Hanson and Michael Apted and is to be released October 26, 2012.

Buzz: Will the young, unknown actor be able to pull off such a demanding role without looking like a kook?

House at the End of the Street

Hunger Games star, Jennifer Lawrence takes on a role very different from Katniss. In the upcoming film, “House at the End of the Street”, Lawrence’s character, Elissa and her mother, Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) move into what seems like the  ideal dream house in a new town, until they hear the rumors about the property they purchased. A few years ago in the house next to the one that Elissa and her mom bought, a child killed her parents, spared her brother Ryan’s (Max Thieriot) life, leaving him to live alone. Elissa begins to develop a relationship with Ryan causing her to venture into the deeper mystery with his family, and things that she never thought she would have to see or be apart of. This frightening film is rated PG-13 and is to be released on September 21.

Buzz: Leaving Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutchinson behind, Jennifer Lawrence gets her new romance interest from Max Thieriot who has been in films like “The Pacifier”, and “Nancy Drew”. The odds appear to be ever in her favor as she gets yet another hot co-star.

Paranormal Activity 4

Yes…there’s a fourth one. “Paranormal Activity 4″ takes place five years after the 2nd film picking up where the film left off. The end of the second “Paranormal Activity” involved Katie kidnapping Hunter. This film follows Katie and Hunter moving into a new neighborhood with a nice house, new neighbors, and new fun. However, the fun soon goes away when paranormal activity begins to take place in their home. The fourth installment in this series will be released October 19.

Buzz: How many of these films can they make without repeating the same plot line? Still, a ghost story right before Halloween–Perfect!!

The Big Wedding

This comedy film directed by Justin Zackham includes a variety of actors including Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, and many more. “The Big Wedding” is a remake of a French film about a divorced couple (De Niro and Keaton) that pretends to be a happily married couple, that everyone thinks they are, in order to support their son at his wedding. Around their friends and family, De Niro and Keaton’s lie unfolds causing their son’s wedding awkward–and hilarious. The official U.S. release date is October 26, so be prepared for a lot of laughs.

Buzz: With big named actors, will it be possible for them to all come together to act somewhat serious and be funny?

The Paperboy

Far away from his “High School Musical” days, Zac Efron is featured in the upcoming mystery film about two brothers investigating a murder. Jack (played by Efron) and his older brother Ward (Matthew McConaughey) attempt to prove the innocence of a man named Hillary (John Cusack) while going through twists and turns throughout the way. Also in this film are Nicole Kidman and Macy Gray. This film was featured at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival where critics gave high praise and recognition to Nicole Kidman’s acting. This movie will be released on October 5, 2012 and is rated R.

Buzz: Will Efron’s fans be able to recognize him if he is not bursting out into synchronized choreography in a high school? Can he hold his own with Hollywood heavyweights, McConaughey and Kidman?

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Based on the award winning book by Stephen Chbosky, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is now a movie directed by the author himself. This movie follows a boy named Charlie (portrayed by Logan Lerman) as he ventures into his first year of high school. In one of his classes, he meets and later befriends a flamboyant boy named Patrick (Ezra Miller) and soon gets introduced to Patrick’s sister, Sam (played by Harry Potter’s Emma Watson). Patrick and Sam take Charlie on various adventures and introduce him to new people, and the world of sex and drugs. Many fans are eager for the release which was finally set to September 21, 2012. The film also stars Nina Dobrev and is rated PG-13.

Buzz: With Emma Watson having finished playing good-girl, Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, she now has the opportunity to act in new, unexpected roles. Will she be believable as a high school druggie? Logan Lerman also gets to step away from the Percy Jackson series where he was the son of a god and now gets to act as a wallflower. It should be very interesting to see how well these actors can switch their roles.
